A travel journal comprising reprints of letters by A. L. Castellan describing his journey to the Ottoman territories in 1796-99. Castellan joined a French auxiliary mission to Istanbul as a painter. His first volume (first published in 1808) describes Morée (the Peloponnese peninsula), the islands Zante (Zakynthos), Cérigo (Cythera), the Peloponnese and Hydra. The second volume (first published in 1811) describes the Dardanelles, Gallipoli, and Istanbul. The third volume (first published in 1819) describes Greek churches, sculptures, art, poetry as well as mosques, fountains, mechanics, buildings, antiquities and people.
